Description: This tutorial will help you understand your exported CSV file.
Note: We recommend to export your metafields once before importing them, as we will format all the required fields for you.
- Entity - for product/variant/order/customer/collection/shop ( depends on kind of export you did)
1. Differentiating between metafields and general entity info.
On the left side of red line you will see entity info, in this case product, which can be used to filter or sort for your convenience. On the right side of red line is the data for those extra metafields added to your entity. We will explain the naming convention in next step.
From the whole overview, you will see data arranged in respective row/column format and is pretty much self-explanatory.
2. Assign value to existing metafield
The empty row value means there is no value assigned to this entity and metafield type, in this case product "Birchbox" and metafield "file/test_file".
Select and assign value
3. Adding a new metafield type
You can either add new metafield type from app or if you prefer to do it so from the CSV sheet, you can do it adding a new column at the end of metafields section.
Now naming column is something you need to take a close look at that, as assigning wrong value will result in metafield not imported at all.
Remember from step one, we said we will explain naming convention, we are coming to that.
See, Shopify metafields consist must have two values declared, "namespace" and "key". On CSV it should be in the format of "namespace/key". You can decide any namepace and key, given its not already declared on the sheet columns.
Our app supports these namespace to differentiate type of content "text", "html" , "image" and "file", but you can name it anything you want.
In this case I chose namespace as "text" and "warranty" as key i.e text/warranty
4. Now assign metafield values to respective entity
5. Editing an existing metafield value
6. Deleting metafield from certain entity
7. Delete the whole metafield from all the entities on sheet
Finally after making changes to your metafields section, you can import the file from our app and metafields will get updated accordingly.
